Apollo Phazer Sub Ohm Tank Review

The Apollo Phazer is a sub-ohm tank that’s been getting a lot of attention lately.

It’s also recently come down in price a bit, so we decided that it was time to put together a review for it. Besides, we have reviewed quite a few different products from them and so far we have been very pleased indeed.

Here’s what we ended up thinking about this cutting-edge sub-ohm tank from Apollo.

Pros and Cons

Here are the basic pros and cons that we discovered over the course of our research.

  • It’s well made
  • It’s made from high quality materials, consisting mostly of steel and Pyrex Glass
  • It’s pretty simple to operate and maintain
  • It has a large, 3.5ml capacity
  • The atomizers are designed so that you can change the wicks on them yourself – which is quite nice

  • The tank doesn’t come with any spare O-rings, which would have been nice to see
  • Because the wick can be accessed and changed, you also need to be careful that you don’t damage it – so this feature is a bit of a two-edged sword

What’s in the starter kit?

Along with the tank, you also get two coils – a .5 and a .2 ohm – and an instruction booklet. This will give you instructions for how to change the coils, perform maintenance, and use the tank.

Keep in mind that this is a sub-ohm tank – so you’ll need to make sure that you’re using enough voltage/wattage to power it the way it needs in order for it to be effective.

There are a few o-ring seals on the inside, which is very nice. This will help to keep the device from leaking when it’s in storage.

The drip tip is also very well-done. It’s nice and wide, which will help you to pull the truly massive amounts of vapor that this tank produces through the opening. As a sub-ohm tank, you’ll likely be impressed with how the Phazer operates – especially if you’ve never used a sub-ohm tank before.

The coil is actually attached to the base. It’s quite ‘chunky’, really, in comparison to other coils like it – but it seems to do the job quite nicely. The coil casing needs to be removed before you throw away the coil itself, which is important – as new coils don’t come with the casing on them.

This is a relatively easy affair, however. You just unscrew them from each other. The coils contain US made wire, and are very well-constructed. Before you insert a new coil into the casing, just make sure to flatten out the cotton – as this will give you the best results and keep the atomizer in contact with the E-liquid better during use.

You can actually replace the cotton on the atomizers yourself (if you’re brave enough), to help lengthen their life-span even more – so kudos to Apollo for designing them this way.

The top of the tank is where you connect the drip-tip and the Pyrex Glass. This part is pretty straightforward, really. Filling the tank is pretty easy – even with thicker VG E-liquid. Plus, the larger capacity of this tank makes it ideal for sub-ohm vaping. It’s really nice in that respect.

After you’ve refilled it and put it back together, you can simply put the drip-tip back on with a small click. It attaches via the included o-ring seal quite nicely.

Information! (Note: As with any new tank or coil, you need to let it sit for a few minutes after filling it before you start vaping. It will take some time for the wick to soak up the E-liquid. This is especially true when using VG E-liquid, as it tends to be thicker and to soak-up a bit slower. A good rule of thumb is to give it 5 to 10 minutes to soak before you start vaping.)

Overall, the tank seems very well made and well-constructed. We had very few complaints, really. Two thumbs up to Apollo for creating a solid, trustworthy product!

  • 510 Threading
  • Full stainless steel and glass construction
  • Coil resistance range: 0.2 ohm to 0.5 ohm
  • Features E-liquid flow control built into the coil heads
  • Comes equipped with an air-flow control ring
  • Comes with a wide-bore drip tip
  • 5ml capacity
This tank comes equipped with standard 510 threading – making it compatible with most modern vaping devices.

What did we think of this Tank?

We tested the Apollo Phazer sub-ohm tank with the .5 ohm coil on an Innokin Coolfire 4 set to 20 watts, with the airflow fully open. And the results, not surprisingly, were pretty impressive!

The tank did an amazing job with flavour at 20 watts. Honestly, 20 is almost a bit weak for this tank, so if you were to crank up the wattage a bit more you would probably get a lot more vapour out of it – but in all honesty, we were still impressed with how it performed. (We test all of our tanks at 20 watts, to try to keep things even and in perspective.)

One of our favourite features on this tank was the glass drip tip. It might not seem like a glass drip tip would make that big of a difference. But honestly, it really helps to add to the overall performance of the tank, because it allows for much larger hits – which is essential with a sub-ohm tank like this one.

All in all, we were more than impressed with how the Phazer performed. We were also very pleasantly surprised to see that it has recently come down in price as well – which is very nice! The replacement coils are also very reasonably priced, which is another great thing about it.

It’s not without a few basic downsides – but really, it’s an amazing tank, and we would enthusiastically recommend it for anyone who’s thinking about getting into sub-ohm vaping and in need of a high-quality tank to get started with.

Appearance and Feel

The box is quite attractive. It’s simple, but gives a detailed description of the product and its specs on the back – which was a nice touch.

Once you open the box, you’ll reveal the tank inside. This is, by all accounts, a very attractive device. It’s made mostly from stainless steel and glass, and looks heavy-duty enough to put up with the rigors of daily use.

  • Airflow

The airflow controller is extremely nice. It’s easy to turn, but not so much that it’ll move without being physically adjusted. It’s nice to see that there’s plenty of airflow available on this device. That’s super-important with sub ohm tanks.

This tank also has a variable liquid controller on the atomizer – which is a feature that more and more sub-ohm tanks are coming out with nowadays. This will allow you to adjust how much liquid the atomizer can take in at once – which will help to give you plenty of control over the thickness and quality of your vape.

  • Material

Since this tank is made from Pyrex Glass and stainless steel, you can certainly expect it to last a while. To be honest, it’ll probably be a life-time investment for you. It’s obviously not indestructible – but with care, you could probably make it last for the rest of your vaping experience.

  • Ease of Use

This tank is pretty easy to use, really. It will take some knowledge to understand what voltage/wattage to use, and you’ll need to learn how to change the atomizer. But really, in the grand scheme of things, this is a pretty user-friendly sub ohm tank.

The biggest highlight to this product is probably the fact that you can change the wicks yourself. This is certainly a unique feature, and though it’s a bit more advanced, we were excited at the prospect of saving that extra money.

The biggest drawback that we experienced with this product was the fact that Apollo doesn’t seem to ship their tanks with extra o-ring seals. This is becoming a more common practice among E-cig manufacturers, and we were certainly hoping to see replacement seals included with the tank.
