Best DIY E-liquid kits in the UK 4.33/5 (6)

What to Know and Where to Go

We recently published an article and a video on the subject of mixing your own E-liquids (you can find that article here: https://ecigsuk.org.uk/guide-how-to-mix-your-own-e-liquid/). And in the comment section, we got some really good feedback from readers – including a suggestion that we publish a page dedicated to finding the best places to buy DIY E-juice kits in the UK.

We thought that this was such a good suggestion that we decided to go for it! We did some research and scoured the internet for the best places to buy DIY kits, and also made sure to catalogue some of our newfound tips and tricks, so we could share them with those of you thinking about looking for a kit of your own.

Granted, DIY E-juice mixing isn’t rocket science – but finding the right products is an important part of it. E-liquid can only be as good as the sum of its components, after all – so finding the right kit (and for the right price) isn’t something to overlook.

Getting started: The Basics

Mixing your own E-liquids will first require you to purchase a DIY kit from an E-cig retailer. There are many such retailers online that make their kits available in the UK. But in this section, we’ve decided to review our favourites – as not all of them are equal. Buying a kit is the easy part – but there are just some retailers that ‘stand out in the crowd’ in terms of quality, value, and customer service – so we’re going to share those with you.

We’re also going to share some of the most frequently asked questions that we came across over the course of our search, along with answers for them. If you have a question about buying a DIY E-juice mixing kit, this is probably the first place to visit.

We’re also going to discuss some our favourite kits in-general, and tell you where you can buy them.

This will hopefully give you everything you need to get your kit ordered and delivered to your doorstep. Once you have it in hand, you should be able to get started without much of a problem.

DIY E – liquid Mixing FAQs

Q: What is DIY E – liquid Mixing?
A: DIY E – liquid mixing is basically the practice of buying the four principle parts of E – liquid (propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavouring concentrates, and nicotine) in bulk and mixing your own vaping E – liquids with them. Contrary to what some people believe, DIY E – liquid mixing doesn’t need to involve a chemistry lab or expensive equipment – but it does require some basic gear and safety precautions.
Q: Why buy a DIY e – liquid mixing kit?

A: While you can buy all of the individual pieces of a mixing kit on their own, mixing kits offer some advantages that you might not want to pass up.

For one, they tend to cost less. Buying every piece of equipment and ingredient on their own can be expensive – and buying in a kit will often save you a considerable amount of money.

Secondly, getting started with a kit is easier because a kit will generally provide you with everything required to get started. This can keep the guesswork to a minimum and provide you with all of the essentials to get started with.

You can also add to your kit over time if you wish. Some people start out with a small kit, and slowly build on it over time. This makes it possible to get started right now with the basics for a smaller amount of money up – front – but still gives you the option to grow your DIY kit over time, which can be pretty cool if you end up being a fan.

Let’s also not forget that mixing your own E – liquids is simply less expensive than buying them pre – mixed. This is usually the primary reason for mixing your own – though wanting to tailor your own mixes to suit your personal preferences can also be a strong motivator.

Q: What is a mixing base, and why is there more than one to choose from?

A: There are basically two types of bases used for mixing E – liquids – propylene glycol, and vegetable glycerin. Both of them have different advantages and disadvantages, and you can either mix an entire E – liquid with one or blend the two – depending on what you’re looking for.

A 50/50 blend of PG and VG is probably the most common mixing base to start out with, but different types of vapers will appreciate different blends.

You will probably also notice that you can get a nicotine base as well – but this is much different from the other two bases. PG and VG are not inherently dangerous or toxic – but the nicotine base (which you dilute with the PG or VG to add nicotine to your E – liquid) is very, very strong in its concentrated form! For this reason, you should always use caution when handling it – and always double – check your numbers when diluting it and adding it to your mixtures.

(Note: You can refer back to our actual DIY mixing guide for more information on bases and nicotine.)

Q: How will I know if a particular mixing kit is a good one?

A: To start with, any good mixing kit will come with basically everything you need to get started. It should come with PG and VG bases, a concentrated nicotine base, flavours, and enough bottles, nozzles, and drippers to get the job done.

You’ll also need some labels, as well as some syringes for more specific measurements.

Secondly, any good DIY mixing kit will come with high – quality components. This means that the bases and the nicotine will be made of high – grade materials. It is also better to buy kits with bases and flavours that were made in the UK or the US, as these will tend to be higher in quality than components made in China.

And thirdly, price is always something to consider. Granted, paying more may yield a better kit with higher – quality components, but it shouldn’t cost you an exorbitant amount of money either. Further down on this page, you’ll see our top recommendations for kits that offer real value for the money – so you should take a look at those if you’re not sure where to start.

Q: Is DIY E – liquid mixing dangerous?

A: To a point, yes – because it involves the use of concentrated nicotine, which is very toxic. But aside from that, it’s pretty safe. In fact, if you’re mixing nicotine – free E – liquids, the danger factor really significantly decreases.

The biggest danger associated with DIY mixing is nicotine poisoning. You should never leave the components out unattended where a child or a pet might be able to get to it and ingest it (you should also avoid getting it on the skin, as concentrated nicotine can be absorbed that way as well).

You should also make sure not to get any on you while you’re mixing. Wearing safety gloves is very important while mixing E – liquids that contain nicotine, as this can help you to avoid potential problems.

But with that being said, there’s certainly no risk of a chemical explosion or anything like that. E – liquid bases are not combustible. Yes, they can be atomized – but they need an atomizer to do so. They aren’t an accelerant, so there really isn’t a fire hazard while mixing your own E – juices.

For more information, you may want to refer to our Guide to Safe Vaping.

Q: Are there any useful tips that I should keep in mind while mixing E – liquid?
A: Yes! Always write down your recipes. You would be surprised at how easy it can be to forget them! Also, try not to mix E – liquids when there are other people around. It’s best to do it when you’re by yourself, so that you don’t get distracted.
Q: How do I find a quality E – liquid calculator?
A: There are, admittedly, a lot of calculators out there that will help you to mix your own E – liquids. You can refer back to our E – liquid mixing guide for our recommendations and instructions – but this is a pretty open – ended question, as there are a ton of options to choose from.
Q: Should I attempt DIY E – liquid mixing? How will I know if it’s for me?

A: If you love to vape, are interested in saving money, have a mind for details, and are pretty good at things like measurements and science projects, then you will probably find DIY E – liquid mixing fun and enjoyable.

If you hate numbers, find that you don’t really like paying attention to small details, and don’t mind buying commercial E – liquids, then DIY E – liquid mixing may not be the best choice for you.

It’s certainly not for everyone – but for those who like it, it can provide you with a fun and unique way to pursue your own personalized vaping habit.

Here is a list of our favourite DIY E – liquid mixing kits for the price. As far as we are concerned, these kits offer the best value for the money. If you’re looking for an outstanding kit to get started with DIY E – liquid mixing, then any of these would certainly put you on a path in the right direction.

picNIC Easy Mix DIY E – Liquid Starter Kit (Contains Nicotine)

This kit comes in two versions… one that comes with nicotine, and one that comes without it. For the purposes of this quick overview, however, we’re going to look at the one that comes with it. Priced at just £17.99, this kit comes with everything required to get you off to an awesome start. Contents of the kit include the following…

picNIC Easy Mix DIY E - Liquid Starter Kit

  • 1 50ml bottle of liquid base (mixed to your preferred PG/VG ratio and nicotine strength)
  • 2 10ml bottles of flavour (your choice)
  • 2 10ml bottles for mixing
  • 1 10ml syringe
  • Labeling stickers

JacVapour offers free shipping on UK orders totaling more than £50, so as long as you pair this order with a few other vaping essentials, you should have no problem getting it shipped for free. As far as the quality of the kit itself is concerned, JacVapour says that all of their products are regulated, tested, and audited to meet both EU and UK standards. One interesting thing about this kit is the fact that the bases/nicotine come pre – mixed. So you’re paying a bit more per ml for the bases, but a lot of the work is already done by the time you get it in – hand – which is kind of cool. Experienced mixers might not necessarily need this, but new mixers might appreciate how much of the tedious number – crunching is removed thanks to this feature.

At any rate, if you’re looking for an awesome DIY starter mixing kit and want to go with something high in quality, then the picNIC Easy Mix DIY E – liquid starter kit might be a perfect match for you.

The best online stores selling DIY E – liquid mixing supplies

Finding the best E – liquid mixing supplies requires first that you find a quality retailer to buy from – but this isn’t always an easy task. There are, admittedly, a lot of businesses in the UK that will sell you DIY E – liquid mixing supplies – so how can you be sure that you’re getting the best quality for your money?

To help solve this problem, we’ve gone ahead and done the research for you – and these are the businesses that we’ve come up with. The criteria that we used to determine our favourites includes ratings in the following categories…

  • Product usefulness (The usefulness and completeness of their DIY starter kits)
  • Product choice (The number of different starter kit options at your disposal)
  • Customization (How much you can customize the starter kit to suit your needs)
  • Price
  • Shipping

With that being said, here are our favourite DIY E – liquid mixing suppliers, along with an explanation for why we believe they deserve to make this list.

Makemyvape.co.uk

Make My Vape is a UK – based E – liquid and DIY E – liquid mixing supplier that has recently gotten our attention for their awesome deals on DIY mixing kits. They offer free UK delivery on orders totaling more than £20, maintain a phone number where you can actually call them for customer service, create their kits with pharmaceutical grace PG, VG, and Nicotine, and carry pretty much everything that you would need to start DIY mixing at home.

This retailer gets high marks across the board. Their DIY kits are almost completely customizable, and come in prices ranging from £15.49 to more – depending on what options you choose. They actually offer 4 different kits… a Small Kit, A Medium Kit, a Large Kit, and an X – Large Kit – all of which come with a pretty good selection of equipment and ingredients. They also carry a huge range of different flavours to choose from, and even host an E – liquid calculator that you can use to start mixing.

Thealchemistscupboard.co.uk

The Alchemists Cupboard is a business that calls itself ‘The Home of the Finest UK’s E – Liquids and DIY Supplies.’ And as it turns out, this isn’t far from the truth! The company maintains a phone number and an Email address so that customers can reach them easily, and also stocks a huge range of E – liquids and DIY mixing products. All of their liquids are sourced from UK pharmaceutical grade products, and they maintain an ISO 14644 cleanroom laboratory – which we found very impressive.

They offer several different kits, ranging in price from £23.50 to £37.50. Their DIY E – Liquid Mixing Starter Kit Gold (which we talked about a little bit in a previous section) was our favourite offering on their site. It allows for pretty good customization, in the sense that you have a huge selection of flavours to choose from.

One slight downside that we found with this company is that they don’t seem to offer a free shipping option – but that’s not a huge deal when you take into account how much quality they offer for the money in their kits. If you’re looking for a retailer who sells complete DIY kits with plenty of flavour customization, then The Alchemists Cupboard should be on your list of companies to check out.

Vapersemporium.co.uk

Vapers Emporium is a website that actually specializes in DIY E – liquid mixing and vaping. They maintain a phone number where customers can contact them for questions or queries, and also maintain an email that you can use for customer support. One small downside to this company is that they don’t seem to offer any free shipping options – but they do operate a brick – and – mortar store location in Glasgow, called ‘Bean Smoking’, which you can visit to cut out the shipping altogether – so that’s a good thing!

VapersemporiumHow we rated them…

  • Product usefulness: 3
  • Product choice: 4

As you can see, we rated ‘product usefulness’ a 3 – this was because they don’t actually seem to carry a dedicated ‘starter kit’ for DIY E – liquid mixing. They do, however, carry pretty much everything you need to piece your own kit together – so if you feel confident in knowing what you need, they do offer outstanding prices on bases and equipment. You can buy a 100ml bottle of Aqueous Glycerin, for example, for just £2.50 – which is awesome. They even sell organic cotton wick material for rebuildable mods, which is pretty cool.

If you’re looking for a company with awesome prices, and don’t mind piecing your kit together and bypassing the ‘starter kit’ step, then Vapers Emporium could save you some serious money while also allowing you to get everything you need to get started.

Jacvapour.com

Jac Vapour has always been a favourite site for us – and they certainly didn’t disappoint in the DIY E – liquid mixing department. They currently offer two different kits – one that comes with nicotine for £17.99, and one that comes without for £10.79. They also offer free shipping in the UK on orders totaling £50 or more, and they offer a general ’14 day no quibble money back guarantee’ on products that they sell should the customer decide that they don’t like them (excluding cartomizers and bottles of E – liquid).

JacvapourHow we rated them…

Jac Vapour’s DIY mixing kits are great – though it should be noted that they do lack a bit of the customization offered on other sites. They also pre – blend your bases and nicotine based on your preferences – so if you prefer to have this step done for you, then Jac Vapour would be an especially good service to utilize.

With that being said, they don’t carry a ton of DIY hardware – so if you’re looking for a wide range of syringes, mixing bottles, nozzles, and other essentials, then you may not quite find what you’re looking for here. But if you want a starter kit that will get you up and running and offer plenty of value for the money while also giving you a pass on having to mix bases and concentrated nicotine, then this might be the perfect option for you.

Vapemate.co.uk

Vapemate is an E – liquid retailer that sells an awesome kit called the DIY ELiquid Mixing Kit.’ They offer free UK shipping on all orders totaling more than £30, supply a phone number and an E – mail contact form that you can use to contact them for questions or queries, and even offer a lot of informative content on their website. Their ingredients are also pharmaceutical grade, and are sourced from the UK and the EU – so you can be sure that quality and safety will be top – notch.

Vapemate offers two different DIY E – liquid mixing kits. Their smaller kit doesn’t come with any flavour concentrate, but sells for just £24.99 – and it’s admittedly a very, very impressive kit. It literally comes with everything else you could possibly need. They also offer a kit called the DIY Eliquid Mixing Kit XL, which is essentially an even bigger kit than their other, more standard option. It still doesn’t come with flavour concentrates, but it offers an incredible amount of value for the money. By adding just a few flavour concentrates to either of these kits, you’ll be ready to get started with DIY E – liquid mixing in a serious way – which is why both come highly recommended as far as we are concerned.

If you don’t mind adding a few flavours to your cart to get started, or if you just need to expand your DIY mixing setup with some new hardware and bases, then Vapemate is an awesome website to visit.

Vapable.com

Vapable says on their website that they are ‘The UK’s Leading Vaping Store.’ They offer free UK delivery on orders over £10, provide customer support over the phone, maintain an attractive and versatile website, and carry two different DIY E – liquid starter kits – both of which have gotten pretty good customer reviews online. Their Deluxe DIY E – Liquid Starter Kit is actually our favourite that they offer. It’s priced at £29.99, and can be customized to suit your personal needs and preferences.

Plus, all of the ingredients included in the kit are top – quality food and pharmaceutical grade – so you can be sure that you’re getting high – quality gear when you order from this website.

Vapable definitely offers serious value for the money with their kits. Their Deluxe kit even ships with a pair of nitrile, chemical resistant gloves – which is awesome. It also ships with 100ml of vaping – grade 48mg nicotine, 200ml of PG base, 200ml of VG base, 4 10ml bottles of flavouring, and a bunch of measuring implements and empty 10ml bottles with long, thin spouts (10 of them, to be exact!).

This is  definitely a hardware heavy kit, but it also provides you with a lot of base for the price too – which is why we enthusiastically recommend it if you’re looking for a serious kit that packs in a lot of value for the cost.

Flavourart.co.uk

Flavour Art UK is a website that we’ve just recently been looking at – but it’s quickly becoming a favourite. They offer lots of customer support, including a phone number where they can be reached for questions or order help – which is really nice. Their flavourings are also diacetyl, acetoin, and acetyl propionyl free – and contain no refined sugars, genetically modified ingredients, animal ingredients, or preservatives.

So if you’re looking for quality, they’ve definitely got you covered.

One small downside to this company is the fact that they don’t seem to offer any free shipping options – but they more than make up for it (in our opinion) by providing an excellent DIY E – liquid mixing kit. Their kit sells for just £45.00, and comes with everything you could possibly need to get started – including 10 different flavours, which you get to choose yourself.

They also give you 100ml of 45mg/ml nicotine base, 100ml of both VG and PG bases, and plenty of syringes and extra bottles. You even get a pair of nitrile gloves and a protective plastic apron with the kit – which is a big plus! If you’re looking for a DIY mixing kit that’ll deliver serious quality for the money, and want plenty of flavour options, then take a look at Flavour Art UK before ordering your next kit.

Liberty – flights.co.uk

Liberty Flights calls themselves ‘a leading expert in quality E – liquid creation, production and worldwide supplier.’ They’ve been in business since 2009, and have garnered a super – positive reputation online (their TrustPilot account is truly impressive). They operate over a dozen different brick – and – mortar storefronts in the UK – but even more impressive is their website.

As far as DIY E – liquid mixing supplies go, Liberty Flights certainly doesn’t disappoint. They carry everything that you could possibly need to mix your own customized E – juice, including bases, bottles, pipettes, syringes, flavours, and more.

One small downside to this company is that they don’t seem to offer a full starter kit – so you will have to piece the elements together. It also seemed as though this company didn’t offer a free shipping option. But their website was more than impressive, and finding what we needed was a breeze. Plus, with so many storefronts, it shouldn’t be a problem to bypass shipping with a visit to a brick – and – mortar location, which is another major plus!

Their prices are also quite good. For example, you can buy a 100ml bottle of PG base for just £4.49, or a 10ml bottle of flavouring for just £3.59. If you’re looking for a great place for some new flavours (they carry a ton of different options), need to expand your hardware, or are simply looking for a place to buy your DIY supplies, then Liberty Flights is an awesome place to browse.

Cig – eliquid.co.uk

Unlike many of the businesses listed in this section, Cig – Eliquid pretty much just sells freshly mixed bulk – sized batches of base and large containers of flavouring. You can, for example, buy a 250ml bottle of PG 52mg E – liquid DIY base for £25.99, a 50ml bottle of Hangsen RY4 Essence/flavour for £11.45, or a 1lt of Nicotine PG 52mg for £64.99.

Make no mistake – this is a place to get large quantities of Nicotine base for very affordable prices. You really can’t get starter kits or even mixing equipment here – but if you’re looking for Nicotine base and want a lot of it, then this is definitely a place to go.

Some of the products on the site qualify for free shipping, and you can even email the website owner for special – orders or to get a non – standard DIY mg strength mixed to – order.

If you’re looking for a large order of Nicotine base for DIY mixing and don’t want to bother with small bottles, then this is certainly a site that you would benefit from checking out. They really only deal in Nicotine bases – but for that, they seem to do a fantastic job.

Best Places To Buy Flavour Concentrates in the UK

Flavour concentrates are an incredibly important part of DIY E – liquid mixing – so we’ve also compiled a list of our favourite places to buy these as well. Building your collection of flavour concentrates will have a positive impact on your ability to create more diverse E – liquid options – and these retailers will provide you with a great place to get started.

Liberty – flights.co.uk

Liberty Flights offers quite a few different flavour concentrates on their website – including lines from Flavour Art, Decadent, and Perfumers Apprentice. A 10ml bottle of liquid will cost you about £3.59 here, which isn’t too bad at all – especially when you consider that it’ll probably take you a while to use an entire 10ml bottle of concentrate!

We also really liked the fact that Liberty Flights carries so many ‘functional’ flavouring aids. For example, they carry a Flavour Art concentrate called ‘Bitter Wizard’ that’s made to reduce or eliminate sweet base undertones. It provides a bit of a bitter aftertaste that helps to counteract any base sweetness that you might want to diminish.

They also carry a flavour called ‘Magic Mask’, which helps to reduce acid perception without modifying the PH. For people who are really into DIY mixing, PH is a big deal. You need to keep your PH levels in check to avoid getting weird, unwanted tastes – and this is just an example of a functional concentrate that can help.

They also regularly offer concentrates at a discount, which is pretty awesome – so you can keep watch and catch some great deals if you don’t mind browsing through their flavour listings a bit. The site itself is pretty simple and straightforward as well – and comes highly recommended if you’re looking for some awesome concentrate options.

Jacvapour.com

Jac Vapour carries a pretty sizeable range of flavour concentrates in a variety of different types and styles. We love Jac Vapour for a number of reasons. They offer a 14 day no quibble money back guarantee on most of their products, will ship your order for free if you buy more than £50 worth of merchandise at once, and even maintain an email address that you can use to get in touch with them for questions or concerns.

They also maintain 2 different brick and mortar store locations – one in Edinburgh, and one in Leeds – so if you live nearby you can actually just stop in and pick up what you need without needing to go to the hassle of getting it delivered – which is pretty cool.

As far as safety is concerned, Jac Vapour’s E – liquid bottles comply with EU CLP regulations, and their liquid ingredients are all tested prior to being used, just to make sure that they meet all of the proper safety standards to be fit for human consumption.

As far as price is concerned, you can get a 10ml bottle of flavour concentrate from Jac Vapour for anywhere from £2.99 to £4.99 – depending on which type you order. If you’re looking for high quality and a good selection from a company that you can trust, then Jac Vapour should no – doubt be at the top of your list.

Thealchemistscupboard.co.uk

The Alchemists Cupboard is a UK – based E – liquid and DIY supply store that offers pretty good deals on all things DIY E – liquid related – especially where flavour concentrates are concerned. Prices on their flavours start at just £2.99 for a 10ml bottle – which is pretty awesome. They also have a ton of options to choose from. The brand that they carry is called Capella, and the concentrates are actually imported directly from the USA.

They carry about 120 different flavours in this brand – and normally hold about 30,000 bottles of it in stock at all times – which is crazy awesome! This basically means that you can always count on them for whatever flavour you might be feeling like.

Plus, their concentrates are all diacetyl free, and come without any artificial sweeteners, sugars, saccharine, aspartame, caffeine, sodium, or gluten included. They’re also peanut derivative free.

As far as customer service goes, you can contact The Alchemists Cupboard via phone at +44 (0) 1603 396906. They also maintain an email address that you can use for questions or concerns: admin@thealchemistscupboard.co.uk.

The Alchemists Cupboard says on their site that they got their start when they realized that not many liquids lived up to their expectations. The logical next step was to start mixing their own – which was how their business (and their flavours) were born.
