Is It Cool To Be A Vaping Mom?
Some people view vaping as a trendy habit – while others almost look on it with disdain. Smoking is obviously cool in some sectors of mainstream society, to a certain extent – but we also know that a lot of people look with disgust upon the habit, mostly because it’s such a dangerous way to spend your time and money.
But when a mom smokes, feelings about the habit and the act of taking part in it are all taken to an entirely different level. Some would say that she’s cool for doing what she wants, and for not allowing her status as a ‘parent’ to define her or make her a stereotype.
Because, at the end of the day – isn’t it really our choice to smoke if we want to? Even if we know that it could kill us, don’t we have the right and the privilege to choose to do it if it makes us happy?
But on the other side of the coin, you have people who would cry out ‘irrelevant’ at this argument. These others would label her as ‘irresponsible,’ both for putting herself at risk, and for potentially putting her child at risk at the same time.
These people, it seems, prioritize the rationality of taking care of your body over the personal choice of partaking in a pleasure-inducing, albeit potentially deadly habit that could land you in the hospital years down the road – and they would probably shame any mother for smoking, for obvious reasons – even if it is not their business, and even if they have no say or stock in what she actually does.
But What About Vaping?
Vaping is a game-changer in this scenario. If a mother wants to smoke, but doesn’t want to subject herself or her child to the deadly effects of tobacco, then she may eventually make the transition to vaping as a way to meet her desire (and satisfy her cravings) for nicotine, while at the same time bypassing the deadly, hazardous fumes given off by analog tobacco cigarettes.
But does this make her weak? Does it speak ill of her character somehow?
Or, to put it a bit more bluntly… do the nosey haters still have a reason to ‘hate’ in this scenario?
I’ve known many vaping mothers over the course of my life. Not too long ago, I asked one of them if it was ‘cool’ to be a vaping mom. This is what she said…
“I don’t really consider anything about it cool… Because I don’t do things to be cool. I do it because I like it.”
I asked her why she chose to vape… and this was her response.
“To relieve stress… and because vaping is a lot better than cigarettes. But I guess when you look at it objectively, it’s cooler to be a vaping mom than a smoking mom… because the vapour from an E-cig can’t hurt your child. It’s also cheaper… and saving money is always cool.”
I find that many moms would probably answer similarly… and it seems that even the question of ‘is it cool to be a vaping mom,’ is, perhaps, a bit misleading.
Mothers don’t seem to be vaping to be ‘cool.’ They seem to vape because they need something in their lives to help them cope with the day to day stresses of living, paying bills, working, and yes… being ‘mom.’
Many moms, down throughout the years, have looked to cigarettes for this stress relief. But vaping offers the same kind of relief – without the dangers of analog tobacco smoke.
Vaping is safer, less expensive, less harmful to have around children, and works as a positive alternative to tobacco products in the sense that it also delivers nicotine in safe doses – the kinds of doses that you would expect to get from a cigarette, minus the tar, ash, and many cancer-causing chemicals that cigarettes have been shown to create when you light them on fire and inhale the smoke.
