Sales of vaping devices to reach all-time high
Global sales of vaping devices to reach all-time high in 2015
We all know that vaping is becoming more and more popular as time goes on. Despite the ‘unknowns’ concerning long-term vaping safety and nicotine-related stigmas, vaping has definitely had some challenges to overcome – though recent statistics seem to confirm what many have been saying all along.
As it turns out, vaping might not have quite as much to worry about as some people think.
According to an article published recently by The Telegraph (source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/11692435/Vaping-takes-off-as-e-cigarette-sales-break-through-6bn.html), global sales of vaping devices are expected to hit a record-breaking £6 billion in sales in 2015.
This would be up from under £5 billion in 2014, and would continue a trend that could put the global vaping market at over $15 billion by the year 2019.
But are these new statistics really surprising? Probably not – and here’s why.
Why aren’t these statistics surprising?
To put it quite simply, vaping offers a lot of benefits that traditional tobacco cigarette use can’t compete with. Vaping is cheaper, less dangerous, and faces far fewer legal challenges at this point. In the UK, it is still legal to vape in many areas where cigarettes are banned – and at the moment, this doesn’t look like it’s really going to change much in the coming years.
Do E-cigs require more research and development? Of course – but the simple fact of the matter is that they’ve come a long way in just a few short years. Today, they present a market presence that the tobacco/cigarette industry should definitely be afraid of. Until now, cigarettes really didn’t have any serious competitors. I mean, the gum and the patches are nice – but they don’t give users the same satisfaction as a cigarette.
But electronic cigarettes have changed all of this. Nowadays, people have a real, solid alternative to tobacco products – and because of this, vaping is truly taking the world by storm.
Cigarettes are on the decline
We don’t need to look far to see that tobacco-filled cigarettes are on their way out. According to the very same article (that we mentioned earlier) published by The Telegraph, the percentage of smoking adults in the UK has dropped from 27% in 1999 to just 19% last year. A similar set of statistics can be seen in the US, where smoking dropped from 24% to 17%.
Tobacco cigarettes are definitely looking at the end of an era. The only question now is how long it will take for electronic cigarettes to dominate the market completely. Of course, with such a solid and long-held place in the market, it might take cigarettes a while to really wind down – but vaping has also seen incredible forward movement as of late.
Some people say that cigarette sales are actually increasing – though a careful look at statistics might tell a different story. While it is true that cigarette sales increased by less than a scant 1% in the UK last year, it seems that this value growth can very accurately be attributed to the rising costs of cigarettes in general – not the fact that they’re actually selling more packs.
Could vaping be right for you?
If you currently smoke or are trying to quit smoking, then there’s a very good chance that you would really enjoy switching to electronic cigarettes. Will doing so guarantee that you’ll be able to quit the real thing? No – but you will probably appreciate many of the obvious benefits. With no tobacco, ash, fire, or smoke to worry about, you’ll find that your overall health and well-being should improve dramatically. Vaping won’t give you bad breath, won’t stain your fingers or your teeth, and won’t give you that ‘tight-chested’ feeling that tobacco cigarettes do.
Is vaping a perfect habit? No. Quitting cigarettes and breathing nothing but clean air would always be better. But could vaping be a healthy, positive alternative to tobacco cigarettes that poses fewer health risks and negative side-effects?
