Improve Your Night Of Sleep With E-cigs

If you have recently switched from analog cigarettes to electronic cigarettes, then you might have become aware of a problem that plagues some E-cig users… sleep loss. As it turns out, switching to E-cigs can tend to mess with your sleep cycle, and you might find yourself lying awake and staring at the ceiling… unable to doze off or to catch that rest that you used to have no trouble getting.

While this can be frustrating, it is helpful to remember that this is often just a part of the transition from analog cigarettes to the electric variety. It is also helpful to know that there is a very simple explanation for this. Nicotine is, after all, a stimulant… and as such, it sometimes behaves a bit like caffeine in how it affects us.

For some reason, it seems that the nicotine that you get from E-cigs seems to be a bit more ‘potent’ in this area than the nicotine derived from cigarettes… so it is not surprising that some people would have trouble adjusting to it.

What can you do about it?

So how can you combat this loss of sleep and get the rest that you need while still enjoying your electronic cigarette? As it turns out, there are definitely a few things that you can do to help yourself.

1… Switch to a lower nicotine strength

If you are vaping e-liquid with a nicotine strength of 18 mg, 24mg, or 36mg, then you might find it helpful to switch to either a nicotine free e-liquid at night or a lower strength (like 6mg). This often solves the problem and helps you to eliminate enough of the chemical from your system to sleep as usual.

2… Try to vape less as it gets later

Another method that you can use to curb sleep loss is to simply vape less after dinner. As evening approaches, try to taper off the actual amount of vaping that you do. If the only e-liquid that you have available is higher in nicotine strength, then this may be the best way to solve the problem without buying new liquid.

3… Avoid looking at computer, tablet, or TV screens as evening approaches

This isn’t necessarily directly tied to vaping, but it can definitely help you to get a better night sleep… and if nicotine is keeping you up at night, every little thing could be helpful to try. As it turns out, flat screens tend to emit certain types of visible spectrum light that interfere with the brains day/night schedule.

Looking at a tablet or your smart phone right before going to bed could result in your brain getting ‘tricked’ into thinking that it is actually day-time… which will definitely not help your sleep-loss problem!

4… Avoid drinking caffeinated beverages before you go to bed

While nicotine can act a lot like caffeine, you will definitely be more likely to experience problems if you combine the two! Try not to drink soda, coffee, or energy drinks late in the day. This will help to keep your body’s caffeine levels at a minimum and may help you to avoid problems when the time comes to fall asleep.

Switching over to E-cigs might take a little bit of getting used to. Most research seems to conclude that they are safer, cleaner, and less dangerous than cigarettes. They are also less expensive and seem to be at least safer (if not safe altogether) for other people around you.

With that being said, many e-liquids do still contain nicotine… which can definitely be a hindrance if you are trying to get some sleep. Vaping a lesser-strength e-liquid or cutting down on your intake closer to evening might be your best bet at avoiding problems related to sleep loss.

Just remember, however, that experiencing some sleeping problems at first is a pretty normal occurrence. Try not to get discouraged, and remember that you are doing your body a huge favor by choosing E-cigs over traditional tobacco-filled cigarettes.
