The JAC Vapour Series S17 is the replacement for the discontinued E series.

With a recent addition of a top fill tank it is updated and upgraded but still keeps things simple enough for anyone to pick it up and use.

As a device that is aimed at newcomers to the vaping world the simplistic nature of the S17 design is absolutely perfect.

If you’re looking for a stylish, new and TPD compliant vape pen then this device is most certainly a nice fit.

What’s In the Kit?

The sleeve design of the S17 Kit packaging makes for simple boxing and unboxing.

Opening up to show a foam housing that keeps all of the kit in place during transit, it contains:

  • 1 x S17 battery (the device itself)
  • 1 x S17 Topfill tank (1.8ml)
  • 1 x mouth-to-lung 1.0 0hm coil
  • 1 x micro USB charger
  • 1 x user manual

With no spare parts and no 0.5ohm coils included with the S17 it is obvious that it is specifically designed for the beginner vaper, paying particular attention to those trying to quit smoking. The device is currently available in three colours – black, purple and silver – the black and purple both have a silicon finish but the silver has more of a stainless steel finish. While the stainless steel looks a little more sturdy it doesn’t have the grip that the other two colours have.

Series S17 Kit Specifications:

  • Dimensions – 17mm (W) 80mm (L)
  • Dimensions (with tank) – 17mm (W) 116mm (L)
  • Power – Unregulated 3.1v – 4.2v
  • Capacity – 900mAh
  • Min resistance – 0.50hm
  • 1.5 hour charging time
  • Topfill

The S17 is marketed as a tool to help people quit smoking, it makes lots of mentions of there being a realistic drag mechanism from the MTL coil that is included with the kit. That doesn’t mean you can’t use the S17 for DTL vaping, all you need is a 0.5ohm coil and the change is instant, but the S17 is geared towards MTL as its primary use.

JAC Vapour Series S17 device

As a starter device that is geared towards helping people quit cigarettes this is fine, but if you are an experienced vaper then it may be a good idea for you to try a more advanced  vape to take on your sub ohm needs.

The Pros & Cons of the JAC Vapour Series S17Kit

The JAC Vapour Series S17 offers a very simplified vaping experience, that doesn’t mean that the experience is a bad one, in fact it is the perfect approach to help people who are quitting smoking make the transition.

The simple thin pen design means that it feels more like holding a cigarette when in use. This combined with the recommended MTL coil means that the overall feeling when first using the S17 is as similar as it can be to smoking a cigarette.

Obviously, this means that it is geared more towards the beginner market and the manual seems to back this up by ensuring that users are aware that in the opinion of JAC Vapour the S17 performs at its best when using a 1.0ohm coil.

The S17 was originally a bottom fill tank, but a recent upgrade has seen JAC Vapour change the S17 to a top fill tank. This makes it incredibly easy to refill your S17.

The design of the S17 is a masterpiece in engineering. Both the battery and tank feel perfect in your hand, with the non slip material ensuring that it’s hard to drop. The silicone coating is stain and abrasion resistant too so even if you’re incredibly clumsy and manage to drop it, it will still retain the great look it has. If style is important then it certainly won’t let you down in that regard.

The 1.8ml tank is maybe a little small, which is more to do with TPD compliance than JAC Vapour, but it does feel like they could have sneaked an extra 0.2ml on there without affecting the design of the pen too much.

Setting up the S17 is to put it simply an absolute dream. Everything screws into place easily and there is no awkward angles to the thread that stops things from lining up. The lights are a particularly good feature as the colour they are and whether they flash or not tells you how much battery power is left.

The quality of the S17 is difficult to quantify. In real terms the product provides a below average experience when a 1.0ohm coil was used. The amount of vapour that it produces can only be described as low. However, this does not necessarily mean that the S17 is a bad product. As a beginner product the smaller amount of product would help new users get used to the change from cigarettes.

When using the 0.5ohm coils the S17 does create a significant amount more vapour, although still not as much as the more advanced products on the market, and could act as an excellent beginner product to enter the sub ohm vaping world. It did use the e-liquid much faster than when using MTL and the battery life was almost halved.

Charging JAC Vapour Series S17

The battery life for the 1.0ohm coils was 6 hours and when using the 0.5ohm coils it was between 3.5 and 4 hours. This is an excellent amount of time for such a small device and is improved by the super fast charge time of just 1.5 hours. You can even use the S17 while it is being charged which makes it even more useful.

  • Manages to bridge the gap between smoking and vaping very well
  • Creates a good size cloud when using DTL
  • Quick and easy to refill
  • Super fast charge time
  • Good battery life for a small device

  • The amount of vapour created with the MTL coil is very low
  • The battery life is not great for DTL vaping
  • Doesn’t arrive with a 0.5ohm coil
  • The tank could be slightly bigger

What Are the S17’s Best Features?

The S17 has recently had an upgrade to a topfill system. It’s incredibly easy to remove the top and fill up the tank. It doesn’t take much effort at all and the speed that you can refill is genuinely impressive. It’s easy to do and unless you are incredibly clumsy it’s very hard to make a mistake.

JAC Vapour S17 topfill upgrade

The S17 is most definitely a vape pen and it lives up to this description with both how it looks and how it feels. It’s incredibly lightweight in your hands so you will hardly know you have it when you’re using it. This translates well for transportation as it easily fits into your pocket or bag.

The MTL feature on the S17 gives you an almost identical experience to taking a drag on a cigarette. For the beginner user this is an excellent feature as it makes it a lot easier to make the transition from cigarettes to vaping.

The S17 is borne out of being a simple to use starter kit. It ensures that it is easy to use and doesn’t try to overload the new user with a raft of complicated features. It does exactly what it needs to do without alienating anyone. The DTL function offers just enough to satisfy a more experienced vaper without offering a top of the range experience.

JAC Vapour S17 user reviews

Most people seem to agree that the JAC Vapour S17 is an excellent entry to the vaping world. The social proof from the JAC Vapour website shows that beginners feel it is perfect for them when they make the switch and it offers enough for when they first make the move to DTL vaping. How Does It Compare to Its Peers?

If you want an alternative to the S17 then there are other starter kits on the market. The S17 is a mid priced vape that has simple features but it does those features very well. An alternative starter kit that has a little more under the hood is the Aspire Carbon Fibre VV.

The Aspire Carbon Fibre VV thas very similar specs to the S17 but has the potential to provide a little more power. With the ability to provide a voltage of 4.8v it gives more power than the S17 does. The tank is 0.2ml larger and it comes in at a price of £18.99.

Some of the main differences between the two:

  • S17: Maximum voltage of 4.2v
  • Aspire: Maximum voltage of 4.8v
  • S17: Retails around £24.99
  • Aspire: Retails around £18.99
  • S17: Comes with a charger in the box
  • Aspire: You have to buy the charger seperately
  • S17: Thin and lightweight makes it simple to carry around
  • Aspire: Slightly thicker and heavier
  • S17: 1.5 hour charge time
  • Aspire: 2-3 hour charge time

After using the S17 for a week I found it to be an excellent beginner model. It is lightweight and sleek which makes it both stylish and practical and it provides an adequate vaping experience for someone who is just making the transition to vaping.

In fact, it is perfect for someone who is just quitting cigarettes because it offers a realistic drag which effectively simulates a cigarette. This coupled with the thin, pen design means that it offers the closest experience to a cigarette possible, even more so if you use a tobacco flavoured e-liquid.

The product is simple to use and it has an excellent battery life for it’s size coupled with a very fast charge time.

Overall the S17 shows that having more features doesn’t necessarily mean it is better. It is far better to have few features and do them right than have many and do them half cocked. The S17 certainly does the few features it has right, and for that you should give it a try.
