Learning more about ‘Smokeless Cigarettes’

If you’ve been doing any research about how to quit smoking, then you’ve probably come across the term ‘Smokeless Cigarettes’ more than once. If you’ve never heard of it before, you’re probably wondering exactly what they are.

Of course, if you’ve done much research about vaping or electronic cigarettes, then you might already know. But for those of you who are new to this whole thing, we will take some time to explain.

The basics

Smokeless Cigarettes is a term that’s used interchangeably with electronic cigarettes and E-cigs. All of these terms basically mean the same thing. The Wikipedia article on the subject uses this as the official definition…

“Electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette, is a handheld, electronic device that vaporizes a flavored liquid and delivers the vapor to the lungs via inhalation. Using an e-cigarette is referred to as “vaping.””

The reason smokeless cigarettes are called ‘smokeless’ is because they utilize no tobacco, flame, tar, or smoke. Instead, they contain a battery. The power from the battery fires an atomizer, which vapourizes the E-liquid on contact. This creates a vapour, not so unlike the vapour created when you use an asthma inhaler.

Why use smokeless cigarettes instead of regular cigarettes?

According to a landmark review that was first published in August of 2015, E-cigarettes were found to be around 95% less harmful than tobacco.

You can find out more about the review here, but here’s a quote that helps to sum up the situation in regards to E-cigs and how dangerous or safe they are in comparison to their analog counterparts. It was published on

“An expert independent evidence review published today by Public Health England (PHE) concludes that e-cigarettes are significantly less harmful to health than tobacco and have the potential to help smokers quit smoking.”

Are they more expensive?

Contrary to what some people might think, E-cigs are actually much less expensive than traditional analog cigarettes. Granted, it costs a bit more to get started with E-cigs, because you need to buy an entire starter kit instead of just a pack of cigs – but buying the E-liquid that you use to refill the kit after that is much, much cheaper. In fact, most estimates suggest that vaping is 70 to 80 percent cheaper than smoking in the long run.

This is excellent news for people who are tired of spending a ton of money on cigs.

How can smokeless cigarettes take the place of analog cigarettes?

Since tobacco contains nicotine, it is addictive. There are also a lot of addictive associations with cigarettes because of the nicotine. This can make it difficult to quit smoking just using the gum or the patch – because the act of holding the cig in your hands and puffing on it can sometimes be a huge part of the experience for smokers.

This is why E-cigs (smokeless cigarettes) may be so much better than other nicotine-delivery systems, and certainly better than their analog counterparts. Since they often resemble cigarettes and must be held and inhaled-on to work, they can also fill these other, less obvious needs for smokers.

This makes E-cigs unique and more effective than a lot of people realize.

Should you try smokeless cigarettes?

This is a good question. In general, you might want to try them if you meet any of the following criteria…

  • You are currently a smoker and would like to try to quit
  • You are currently a smoker and would like to try to cut back on cigarettes by taking on a substitute
  • You’re addicted to nicotine in some other form or capacity

Some people vape even though they’ve never smoked, though a lot of people suggest that this could be needless, and that it could possibly get you addicted to nicotine. On the other hand, some people simply vape because it’s a fun activity and something to do when they’re hanging out with other smokers. For people who aren’t currently addicted to nicotine, there is always nicotine-free E-liquid to make use of.
