Neon 70W TC Box Mod Review

The Neon Box Mod is a new product that was designed in London, with most of the vital components coming from the USA. It’s a classy and sophisticated box mod with temperature control settings and plenty of variable wattage room to mess with. It’s also a sub-ohm device, and is capable of resistances as low as 0.1ohms.

But of course, this isn’t the only mod on the market that offers these types of features – so where does it stand as a vaping device on its own?

That’s what we were determined to find out – so here’s a breakdown of what we learned about the Neon 70W TC Box Mod.

Pros and Cons

Here are the basic pros and cons that we discovered over the course of our research.

  • It looks awesome and seems well put together
  • It comes with a temperature control mode, as well as variable voltage
  • It was designed in London, and the onboard electronics were made in the USA
  • It has a rubberized coating that makes it feel awesome in-hand
  • Can be boosted up to 70 watts and can utilize atomizers with a resistance as low as 0.1ohms

  • You’ll need to buy your own tank and battery if you want to use this device, as it doesn’t come with either/li>
  • The tank sits toward the front of the device, which takes a minute to get used to – though ultimately, it’s really not a big deal at all

What’s in the starter kit?

When we opened the box, we found 1 box mod, 1 braided micro-USB charging lead (which was very nice), and 1 instruction manual (with a lovely design – it matched everything). You’re going to need a battery to use with this box mod if you don’t have one already (it takes an 18650), and also a tank or clearomizer, because it doesn’t come with one.

The buttons on the front of the device are very nice. They click, but don’t seem like they would rattle around at all. We were pretty impressed with how they felt.

The battery compartment is accessed via a magnetic slide-off cover. Basically, you just pull the back part of the box mod off to reveal it. We liked this feature a lot. This is actually becoming a more popular way to cover the battery storage area, so we were pretty excited to see this box mod equipped with such a feature.

When placing a battery into the box mod, make sure that you face the plus-side down and the minus-side up. This is laid out a bit differently than it is with other devices, but it’s really not too big of a deal.

As far as weight goes, this box mod is actually a bit weighty right from the beginning – but when you put the battery in it, it obviously becomes even more so. This isn’t a downside though. In fact, to us, the weightiness made it feel like it would last longer and hold up better – which was a good thing.

Turning this box mod on is pretty simple – with 5 clicks. You do the same to turn it off.

The screen is quite bright. It was actually one of the best that we had ever seen. It was so clear that it was unreal – and it was so bright that, even in full sunlight, you would have absolutely no problem reading it.

And when you push the button, it lights up even more – which is spectacular. On the main display, you have access to your battery level, the voltage, your ohms, and your wattage. You can, of course, raise and lower the wattage using the plus and minus buttons. It switches very quickly, which is a good thing.

You can, of course, also call up a menu. This is where you could choose different modes, such as the temperature control mode or the power mode. You can also access the settings. You can even flip the screen, so if you’re a left-handed vaper, you can still view the screen without a problem.

  • 5-70W variable wattage
  • Temperature control settings (titanium and nickel wire atomizer required)
  • Features a rubberized coating
  • Fires atomizers at resistances as low as 0.1 ohms
  • The on-board chipset is made in the USA
  • Equipped with a 510 thread connection
  • Requires 1 18650 battery (not included)
  • Product dimensions: 82mm x 24mm x 39mm
This box mod is fitted with 510 threads, so you can use most common tanks and clearomizers with it, which is really nice.

What did we think of this Box mod?

We tried this box mod with the Apollo Phazer tank, which had a 0.2ohm coil installed in it. We also set the wattage settings up to 70 watts, which was the maximum. We really liked how this tank looked on the Neon, though it was a bit strange that the tank sat more forward on the end of the mod – but really, all things considered, it’s a really pretty and attractive setup.

We vaped on this mod with a 0mg nicotine max VG concentrate that we mixed up, called ‘The Godfather’, by Vape Crew – so we were pretty excited to give it a try.

As far as the vape was concerned, this mod and tank gave us incredible flavour and copious amounts of clouds. At 70 watts, this was probably the most powerful mod that we’ve ever reviewed – and it certainly showed in the amount of vapour that it produced.

All in all, we loved this setup. The box mod performed without a problem, and the flavour and vapour we pretty much spot on. We had zero problems with it, and even with a 0.2ohm coil, we were able to really max out the Neon’s power and make full use of it – which was awesome.

If you’re looking for a powerful device and don’t mind spending a bit more to get a tank and a battery to use with it, then you’re certainly going to love the Neon 70W TC Box Mod from the UK Ecig Store.

Appearance and Feel

The box that it came in looked amazing – so if the packaging is any indication of what’s inside, we were pretty sure that we were in for a treat. It was sleek, black, and sexy, and was definitely one of those boxes that makes you feel like whatever is inside is going to be the same.

Once opened, we weren’t disappointed. This box mod was simple, yet elegant right from the beginning. Surprisingly, it isn’t that expensive to buy – but yet, it feels and looks like it would be. So kudos to the UK Ecig Store for making such a great-looking product.

The feel

The rubberized coating gives it a really nice and secure feel – and the aluminum metal underneath makes it feel sturdy and strong. We have no doubt that this device will last a long time. It certainly seems to be built to withstand the rigors of daily use, and we have little doubt that it could survive simple drops and accidents quite well.

The profile on the Neon is spectacular. It’s almost a stealth-vaping device, as it’s just small enough to be completely concealed within the hand. The tank is really the only thing that would be visible if you were to clench your hand all the way around it – which we rather liked.

  • Airflow

The airflow will really be regulated more by the tank than by the mod. It seems to supply plenty of airflow to the battery, but as far as vaping is concerned, you’ll do most of the adjusting with the tank.

  • Material

It’s made of aluminum, with a nice black rubberized finish.

  • Ease of Use

As far as box mods are concerned, the Neon is actually pretty user-friendly. It’s obviously more complicated than a regular vape pen, but the settings are easy to access and understand, and the manual does a great job of explaining how to use everything. Obviously, you’ll need a special coil to use the temperature control settings – but really, with the variable wattage, you’re ready for just about any situation anyway.

The best thing about this device is probably it’s sleek, slim profile. We were very impressed with how small and compact it was.

It also offers all of the settings that you would expect to see in a box mod. It has temperature control – which is quite an advanced feature and one that not all box mods offer.

The main drawbacks to this device are probably that it doesn’t come with a battery or a tank – but then again, that’s not what this device was designed for. It wasn’t designed to be an all-in-one starter kit. It’s just the mod – so finding your own extras to add to it certainly isn’t too big of a problem at all.
