Nitecore Intellicharger i1 Review
The Nitecore Intellicharger i1 was sent through to us courtesy of ePuffer.co.uk – so if you’re looking to purchase it, we would certainly recommend that you look for it there.
But it is a quality charger? Will it get the job done? These are the important questions, and in this review we’re going to seek to answer them. Charging your cylindrical lithium ion batteries can sometimes be a pain, especially if your device isn’t equipped with a plug-in charger of any kind.
This charger is designed to make charging your batteries simple, however – by using a ‘smart’ system that automatically detects what’s in it.
So let’s get started. Does the Intellicharger live up to its ‘intelligent’ reputation, or is it all smoke and mirrors? Here’s what we found out.
About the charger
While this is certainly a stand-alone charger, it says right on the box that it’s ‘made for vapers’ – which is actually pretty nice. There are a lot of these types of chargers out there for high-powered flashlight users, so it’s nice to see something specifically designed with vaping in mind.[print_responsive_slider_plus_lightbox id=”38″]

The charger itself was lightweight, but seemed well made. One of the most vulnerable parts of chargers like this is where the AC cord connects to the device – but we were pleased to discover that this connection was very, very sturdy on the i1.
It’s made of a very high quality AVS plastic – which is awesome. It’s fire resistant as well, which is an important safety feature.
All in all, it seems very robust. There seems to be little reason to think that the parts won’t hold up. After getting it out and handling it for a while, we were pretty convinced that it would last a long time.
This charger is compatible with a wide array of different IMR/Li-ion batteries. Here’s a complete list of the types of batteries that this charger will accept…
26650, 18650, 17670, 18490, 17500, 17335, 16340 (RCR123), 14500, and 10440
What did we think of this charger?
We found the i1 to be a well-rounded charger setup. It’ll charge a pretty wide variety of different types of devices, is made from flame resistant plastics, is equipped with a number of different safety features that help to keep it safe and secure while charging, and is also capable of sensing what settings it should use to charge the battery placed within it – making it a versatile and user-friendly device.
To put it simply, we were quite happy with it. As far as we were concerned, this is a charger that deserves a place in any vaper’s collection, and we could certainly see it getting used quite heavily. It’s also strong and durable – so you won’t need to worry about it breaking down.
All in all, two thumbs up to Nitecore for developing a pretty amazing little charger in the i1! If you’re in the market for a versatile IMR/Li-ion charger, then you should definitely look into the i1.
This charger plugs right into a mains plug-in – so you won’t need to worry about USB plug ins or anything like that. You can simply plug the batteries into it and then plug it into the wall to get started.
The packaging was really nice. It consisted of a cardboard box with some high quality pictures and specs printed on it. Nitecore has put out several chargers in this series – so this is only one of the possible models that you can acquire in the series.
This charger, however, was specifically designed for vapers – which is quite nice really.
One thing that should be noted, however, is that you can really only charge one thing on it at a time – despite the fact that you could technically plug two things into it. You could plug something into the USB port and another into the battery bay, but the USB port won’t actually get power until whatever is on the battery bay finishes charging – so really, though you can plug multiple things into it, it won’t technically charge all of them at the same time. Rather, it will charge them one at a time.
The sliding/adjustable battery holder will hold batteries of several different sizes. It also has an EGO attachment thread located in the center of the battery station. This is why it pays to buy a charger that was designed for vapers, and we were very impressed with it.
Regular flashlight battery chargers would never have this feature – so kudos to Nitecore for including it.
It was also nice to see a USB port located on the device. This makes it possible to use it as a charging hub for your Micro USB/Regular USB devices as well, even the ones that don’t have removable batteries.
This might not matter to everyone – but we were quite happy to see this included, as it can be very helpful for vapers who need to charge more than one different type of device.
Really, all things considered, this is a super easy device to use. It’s pretty much a plug-and-go type charger. You don’t have to do much, as it makes all of the adjustments for you – which is good.
One highlight of this charger is that it will stop charging once it detects that the battery has a full charge. It’s not good for batteries to remain on the charger for long after they’ve be fully charged, so this feature may definitely save you some hassle and help to keep your batteries in better shape.
Another awesome highlight to this product is that it will allow you to screw an EGO battery directly into it. This is a super-cool feature, and we were thrilled to see it included with the charger.
One possible problem that we saw with this charger was with the contacts. When charging an IMR, we found that there’s enough ‘wiggle room’ to allow the battery to sort of slide off of the contact – which was a bit of a pain. It doesn’t happen often, but it is possible – so make sure that you center the battery within the bay to maximize contact.
Another possible drawback to this product is the fact that it doesn’t charge 18350 batteries. This isn’t really a downside because the device simply wasn’t designed to charge them – but be aware of that, and just know that if you need a charger that will handle 18350s, this might not be the model for you.
A few reviews from Amazon
We give this charger two thumbs up. If you own some vaping gear and need a good Li-Ion charger to charge up your batteries while they’re not in use, then you really can’t go wrong with this one. It’s pretty standard and super easy to use. It’s also durable and you can use it without a learning curve. Also, the fact that it will work well with so many different types of batteries is really nice.
