Build your own coil

Should you try to build your own coils?

A lot of tech-savvy vapers have at least looked into the possibility of building their own coils. We’ve actually been looking into this more as of late, and have found that there are a lot of advantages to it.

As you know, using tanks like the SMOK TF RTA G4 (or its simpler G2 variant) allows you to construct your own coils out of wire. You can also wick these coils yourself, using organic cotton.

Obviously, there are a myriad of tanks available that allow you to simply purchase pre-built disposable atomizers, and with such devices, you simply need to buy atomizers and screw them into place to change them.

So why would someone even bother with building their own coils?

The advantages of rebuildable atomizer decks

Atomizers that are built specifically so that you can build your own coils and wick them are certainly more labor intensive to use. Building a coil isn’t rocket science, and it’s really not all that challenging – but it’s more difficult than just buying a replacement and screwing it into place.

So what’s the upside? Why would someone choose to go this route?

As it turns out, there are several reasons for this.

First of all, building your own coils saves a ton of money. Coil wire is super cheap – and buying organic cotton to wick with is also extremely inexpensive. You will save a ton of money if you choose to go this route, as disposable atomizers are certainly more expensive in the long run.

Secondly, it eliminates waste. When you buy a coil with a rebuildable head on it, you can simply switch out the coil and wicking when it goes bad – which pretty much eliminates needless waste. Disposable coils, on the other hand, pack in a lot of extra metal and material that simply isn’t required on a rebuildable head – and this material is all stuff that you’re paying extra for, just to throw away when it’s done.

And thirdly, building your own coils give you a lot of control over your vaping habit – especially if you’re using a mechanical mod. Choosing the coil wire and the type of coil that you wish to build will give you a very specific type of control over the amount of current that you’ll be able to apply to your wicking material.

This will pretty much allow you to set the resistance, as if the device had variable wattage mode – which can be super awesome in some cases (though you’ll need to crunch your numbers first to make sure that you’re not doing something that isn’t safe).

Should you try to build your own coils?

Are you tech-savvy? Do you like crafty-type activities that allow you to work with your hands? Do you like spending time on your hobbies and building something that you’ll be able to use later?

If so, then building your own coils might appeal to you more than you would realize.

Some people just want to vape, and they don’t really care about how they get to that point. If you feel that spending extra time on something like this would be a drag, then it might not be for you – and that is completely fine!

But if you feel like you might like to put a bit more TLC into your vaping setup, and if you feel like building your own coils, with your own hands, would give you more pride and bring you more enjoyment from your device, then you might want to give it a try.

A lot of vapers are intimidated by the idea of building their own coils. But realistically, it’s not all that difficult. If you can use the internet, are comfortable with instructions, and can work with small enough materials to thread a beaded necklace, then odds are good that you’ll also be more than capable of building your own E-cig coils.
