SMOKO Starter Kit Review
Smoko is an interesting company that we’ve recently discovered in the UK E-cig market – so naturally, it was only a matter of time before we wrote a review about one of their products.
I was quite impressed by their website. This company really seems to focus most of their efforts on one particular product – their basic starter kit. It’s a mini cig-a-like kit, which is a bit different, because you actually don’t see these types of E-cigs around as much nowadays as you did three or four years ago. But they’re still around – and from the looks of it, Smoko is doing a pretty good job with them!
Here’s what we found out about their Starter Kit.
Pros and Cons
Here are the basic pros and cons that we discovered about the Smoko Starter Kit over the course of our research.
- It seems well-made
- It’s super-simple to use, even for beginners
- The E-cigs are very realistic – so much so that they would be ideal for former smokers
- Smoko offers some free shipping options for both UK and International orders
- The tin that the kit comes in is very attractive, and would make an excellent gift for a quitting smoker
- You won’t get an incredibly huge volume of vapor with these E-cigs
- They don’t have any settings on them, or anything like that
- Unless you simply don’t plan on vaping very often, or will always be near a USB port, you might want to order an extra battery so that you can have one to use while the other is charging
What’s in the starter kit?
The starter kit comes with an instruction manual (that also lists all of the available flavors offered by the company), one battery, one USB charger, and two cartridges. Of course, the tin that it all comes in is also a part of the kit – and a very nice part, at that!
The starter kit comes with original tobacco flavors in the cartridges, each of which boast a 2.4% nicotine strength.
The instruction booklet was actually quite informative. This isn’t a very complicated kit to use – but it was nice to see that adequate instructions are provided for those who haven’t used E-cigs before. So, well done to Smoko on that point.
The charger seems well-made and simple to use. It’s a standard USB charger, which means that you simply screw one end onto the battery and plug the other into a powered USB port – such as in your computer or on a mains adapter, or something like that. A small red LED lets you know that the battery is charging, and a green light indicates that charging is complete.
It only takes about 2 hours to charge the batteries, which is great.
The threads on the battery seem very well done. Connecting to the charger is simple, and it didn’t seem like you’d have to worry about cross-threading or problems like that – which is nice.
Connecting the cartridges to the battery is also easy. You simply screw them together, and you’re good to go. The connection seems to be good, and there didn’t appear to be any issues with it.
Each of the cartridges comes with a small sticker that covers the mouthpiece. You’ll need to remove these before you can vape. They also have a small rubber seal on them – so you’ll need to remove that as well.
The batteries are on the small side – about 180mAh. But this isn’t too bad for what they are, really. They’re very light-weight, and will still get you through the better part of the day. Obviously, these devices aren’t meant for cloud chasing or for creating a ton of vapor. They actually work very well as cigarette substitutes.
On a device like this, it takes about 5 to 7 draws to equal one cigarette, in terms of nicotine content.
- 2 hour recharge time
- USB charger
- Flavors are made in the UK
- Comes with a designer metal case
- 180mAh battery
- Blue LED tip actives during use
What we think of this starter kit
These E-cigs actually do a really good job of mimicking the taste and feel of a real cigarette. The tobacco-flavors are subtle, but nice – and it even gives you a nice throat hit when you inhale the vapor.
The presentation was good, the flavor and amount of vapor was spot-on, and the extra E-liquids they have available are actually very awesome.
All in all, we liked this kit, and would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone interested in a mini E-cig kit – especially if you’re looking to get away from cigarettes and need something that will very closely remind you of them in look, feel, taste, and appearance.
Appearance and Feel
First of all, it has become fairly obvious that E-cig minis are very useful for helping people to get off of cigarettes – so kudos to Smoko for really focusing on this aspect of the habit. These products seem to be designed very realistically, so as to offer a better experience for vapers who are trying to quit smoking – and from the looks of it, Smoko seems to be on the right track.
When you first get the starter kit out of the box, you’ll see a metal tin with a cardboard slip around it. The packaging is actually pretty nice. No complaints as far as that goes, and the tin provides a very attractive place to store your E-cigs. It will certainly keep them safe without a problem – which is awesome.
Once you open up the tin, you get to the contents of the starter kit – which includes one battery, two cartridges (one attached to the battery, and one extra) and a USB charger.
At the end of the battery is a textured blue LED light, which lights up when you take a draw. We thought that this was an attractive feature, and it’s nice to see the product distinguished from cigarettes. A lot of cig-a-likes have red lights, but we sort of prefer the blue ones sometimes.
One great thing about the cartridges is that they come with the flavor abbreviation and the nicotine content printed right on them, so you won’t need to worry about getting flavors mixed up – which is very nice.
The airflow on this device is pretty good. We really didn’t have any problem with it.
The materials are nice. The products seem to be made of a combination of plastic and metal.
- Ease of Use
As far as ease of use is concerned, there really isn’t an easier type of E-cig to use. All you need to do is screw a cartridge onto a charged battery, and you’re good to go. No cleaning is required, because the cartridges are disposable. All you need to do to keep the kit going is to charge the battery – and that’s as easy as charging a cell phone.
One of the best upsides to this product is that it really does offer an easy and cost-effective alternative to cigarettes.
The main downside to kits like this is probably the fact that you can’t refill the cartridges. Buying new cartridges limits your flavor choices to only those offered by the company, and also costs a bit more than refilling with E-liquid.

Additional recommended products from this company
If you buy this kit, we would actually recommend that you also pick up a spare battery at the same time. This will give you two batteries altogether, so you can use one while charging the other. This will ensure that you never have to wait for a dead battery – which could be a pain if you’re trying to wean yourself off of cigarettes.
